Brock in 1883. [Putnam, Richard F. born about 1834] *Rev. Thomas R. Lambert, one of 16 "Brothers" requesting the publication of this sermon. Rev. Lambert was Chaplain in the United States Navy (1856 - 1883), and later rector of the Episcopal church at Charlestown, MA. He was the brother of Lucy Hill Lambert. Very Good. $125

1850 - Remarks on a Pamphlet Concerning the Canon on Lay Discipline, Passed at the Recent Convention of the Virginia, Held in Alexandria, May, 1850. Washington [D. C.]: Gideon & Co. 1850. 8vo. 31pp. Sewn pamphlet, no wrappers. Leaves generally quite clean and bright, title lightly soiled, faint damp-staining to corner of first 9 pages. P. 9 with vertical centre fold. A pamphlet published in defense of "those who voted against the Canon on Lay Discipline", who are charged with being "favourable to the offences proscribed in it." Includes a brief history of the Convention of Virginia,  Argument drawn from the Ordination service, Mistaken views of the 42nd canon shewn, Advantages of joint legislation and danger of monopoly, Examples and Objections, etc...Very Good. $75

St. Louis: W. B. Chittenden. 1878. 8vo. 31pp. Original paper wraps lightly rubbed & soiled, gift inscription to to top margin of front cover "Rob. C. Winthrop from Bishop Smith." Few marginal lines in pencil. Clean and bright.

1769 - Robertson, Alexander (1742 - 1784) and James (1747 - 1816). The New-York Chronicle; Open to All Parties, and Influenced by None. Vol. I. [Numb. 23] From Thursday September 28, to Thursday October 5, 1769. New-York: Printed by Alexander and James Robertson. 4to. [4 leaves] 8pp. (p. 177-184). 3 columns per sheet. Unbound, possibly removed from bound volume. First and last leaf separated, untrimmed. Some light toning to a few edges including front page, otherwise clean and fresh. An excellent copy. Includes: Extracts from the American Society held at Philadelphia, with an essay on the riches of America, the Indians, climates and latitudes of "Pekin", Madrid and California "of which Sir Francis Drake took possession.", Much news about barracks and provisions for Royal troops, letters from South-Carolina, Thomas Gage, etc. News of the Comet, Almost an entire page devoted to the late terrible fire at St. John's, Antigua  "in the neighbourhood of the little Negro-market, at the house of Mrs. Finly, occasioned by a Negro heating an oven". Imposing taxes on the inhabitants of South-Carolina, News from New-Orleans (General O'Reily arrives with 4000 black and white Spanish troops to take possession of that place, Advertising for Concerts, Fire-Works, Poetry, etc...According to the library of congress: May 8th 1769 - January 4th, 1770. The last issue located is that of Jan. 4, 1770. Scottish printers and staunch Royalists, the Robertson brothers first arrived in America in 1768, and established the weekly newspaper, The New-York Chronicle in 1769. It was short lived (about 7 months), when they decided to  move to Albany: "The Robertsons were the first who opened a printing house in Albany." (History of printing in America, vol. ii, p. 118. Isaiah Thomas). They eventually fled the country and after a brief return to New York with the Royal troops, established printing houses in Nova Scotia where Alexander died and James returned to Scotland. Containing the arguments of counsel, the opinion of the court, and Mr. Rownan’s address to the court, at full. [New York]: Dublin: printed, March 12, 1794. New-York: re-printed by Tiebout & O’Brien, no. 358, Queen-Street, near the Friends Meeting-House., 1794. [First American Edition] 8vo. [2], 152pp. In modern paper wraps label to front. Early ownership stamp: “D. Henshaw” to title and lower margin of p. 20. Leaves toned/foxed. This copy does not contain frontis portrait or the Address of the Independent Dublin Volunteers which is generally considered as p. [153]. Trial of the Irish nationalist “being a person of wicked and turbulent disposition” who was arrested, tried and found guilty of seditious libel, and sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment.
