1852 - Oliver, Fitch Edward (1819-1892). A Selection of Ancient Psalm Melodies, Adapted to the Canticles of the Church in the United States of America. Boston, New-England. M.D.CCC.LII. [1852]. 8vo. [2], 27pp. Signed and dedicated to corner of title page by author: "Rev. Charles Mason [1812-1862] with the regards of F. E. Oliver". Original paper wraps soiled and creased with small close tears to edges. Title also somewhat creased, with fold to corner. Back paper wrap separated by about 2 inches at head and foot of spine. Else Fine or close to it. "The object of the present little work has been to put in a permanent and useful form, the more simple and practicable of the Psalm or Gregorian Melodies, best adapted to the Canticles of the Morning and Evening Services of the American Church. The few here presented, comprise the purer versions of these ancient strains, being taken principally from Alfieri's collection". Rare. Good. $85

The two "passenger cases"  involving constitutionality of passenger tax statutes of New York & Massachusetts argued six times beginning in 1845 with attorneys Choate, Webster, Van Buren and others which was finally held unconstitutional.

The interior is clean and in Fine condition. Very Good Copy.
