Dix was invited to to preach a sermon on the occasion of the semi-centennial commemoration of the Oxford Movement in February of 1833, however due to the death of his mother he was unable to attend. Small 8vo. 62pp. Appendix contains [p. 27] : "some brief Memoirs of the Lives and Characters of the late Reverand Messieurs Thomas Shaw, William Taylor, Michael Bruce, and Samuel Haliday, Protestant-Dissenting Ministers in the Counties of Down and Antrim." Each Memoir with caption-title. Pamphlet with no wraps, removed from bound volume. Edges lightly toned, otherwise a Fine copy. Perhaps the most important contemporary source on Rev. Abernethy's life and work.

1791 - Dunlap, John (1747-1812). Dunlap's American Daily Advertiser. Tuesday, September 6, 1791. (No. 3935.), & Monday, October 31, 1791. (3981.) Two early copies of the first American daily newspaper. Folio. Single sheet, 4pp. Five columns per page. (complete) 20 X 12 1/4 inches. Clean, September 6 issue folded once, with one inch tear at fold in the centre of page one. John Dunlap (1747 - 1812), was born in Ireland and arrived in Philadelphia in 1757. In 1771 he began publishing a weekly newspaper, The Pennsylvania Packet, or The General Advertiser, which was a great success and led to the publication of the first daily news paper in the United States Dunlap's American Daily Advertiser, in 1784. The first broadside copies of the Declaration of Independence were printed in Dunlap's shop, July 1776. Contents include an entire page (5 columns) on: "Considerations on the Matter of Libel, Suggested by Mr. Fox's Motion in the British Parliament". On the exclusion of the Jury, On the rule that the truth of Libel shall not be given in evidence, when Libels subject of Criminal Prosecution. On restraining the discussion of public subjects, by inflicting punishment on Libels on the Government. Interesting news from the Cape where 600 whites were killed and wounded by negroes who almost sank a British Frigate (Jamaica). Names of the Members of the Second Congress of the United States, & House of Representatives. Many advertisings for goods, real estate, Public Vendue, Drugs & Medicines, Rewards for Runaways, Charter Ships, etc..Near Fine.
