Late Emperor of Germany, Discovery of Ancient Coal-mine in Ireland, Tract on "Neatness", Foreign Intelligence from London (India) Dispatches from Lord Cornwallis, Congress of the United States; Procedure for determining the number of members of the House of Representatives given to each State, American Intelligence (Kingston, Jamaica) Indian News related by a Gentleman from Kentucky (Miamies and Indians from Lake, 1200 strong, 56 dead, etc...), More Indian News (Gen. Scott killing 700 Indians with only the loss of 6 men, "Gen. Scott brought in near 700 Scalps"), Senate on Raising 3 additional Divisions for Indian Wars, List of Married, Dead, Boston Price Current (Coffee, Fish, Rum, etc), Custom House Entries, etc. Founder of the Massachusetts Historical Society, and overseer of Harvard, Belknap issued "The American Apollo" as a weekly magazine on January 6, 1792 [Belknap & Young], and was later printed by  [Belknap & Hall].  The American Apollo ceased publication with the issue of December 25, 1794. Inscribed by author to half title. 8vo. 47pp. (Reprinted from the "Christian Remembrancer" Jan. 1865.) There is a rather significant passage by Beresford Hope, which clearly aluminates his political views towards the American Civil War: "Of the Church in the Confederate States we know still less; but, without precise information, we may make sure that the Clergy and the members of that Church are strengthening and ennobling their country-men in their glorious struggle." The author believes that Mr. Davis is no more a rebel than Mr. Lincoln: "they respectively and legitimately represent different readings of a document not meant to be straightforward by those who framed it...carried it with long delays...through the legislatures of thirteen jealous sovereignties." Each 4pp. in seven columns. Elephant Folio. (18 X 24) Faint creases at folds light sporadic foxing, otherwise leaves clean & bright. An excellent group of 34 consecutive issues including 10 single leaf extras removed from bound volume, still attached at gutter. Covering an interesting period of debate over the reannexation of Texas, Inauguration of the Eleventh President of the United States, questions regarding Texas & Slavery, admission of the States of Florida & Iowa, the Oregon Bill, “the designs of England upon California”, etc. James Knox Polk’s inaugural address if full (March 4th) published Thursday March 6th: “None can fail to see the danger to our safety and future peace if Texas remains an independent state or becomes an ally or dependency of some foreign nation more powerful than herself…[I] endeavor by all constitutional, honorable, and appropriate means to consummate the expressed will of the people and Government of the United States by the reannexation of Texas to our Union at the earliest practicable period.” Samuel Morse telegraphed the address and the events of the ceremony to Baltimore on his newly invented machine. Speeches on the Annexation include Messirs: Dayton (NJ), Winthrop (MA), Collamer (VT), Daniel (NC), Marsh (VT), Hudson (MA), Barnard (NY), Hamlin (OH), McIlvain (PA), Douglass (IL), Bowlin (MO), Berrien (GA), Andrew Jackson’s letter to the Editor, Vinton (OH) on admittance of Iowa & Florida…and of course reports of the Twenty – Eight Congress (2d. Session) regarding the reannexation and other issues. “The joint resolution from the House, as amended on the motion of Mr. Walker, was passed by a vote of 27 to 25.”, “ Texas restored to the Union.
